CE Week #2: “Joe Biden on Meet The Press”
Watch all four clips and then compose your post re. what was covered on at least two of the topics addressed by VP candidate Joe Biden:
When does life begin?
The surge in Iraq
Governor Palin
Close Election
Biden handled the whole thing very well. He showed that he could keep his cool for the most part and he gave evidence with every answer that he is very intelligent and has thought these issues thoroughly. I particularly liked how he handled the issue of Palin, it is true that she delivered a wonderful speech and that she has shown she can deliver votes. She literally has nothing in common with Hilary Clinton however, and I believe that it is insulting to say that women will vote for McCain just because there is a woman on the ticket. I hope that Americans are not honestly dumb enough to think that vice president is more than a figurehead. Having said that some Americans a very dumb and probably do think that. He handled the issue of abortion brilliantly. He, just like Bill Clinton appealed to everyone. He stated he was personally against it but no one has the right to force his or her religious beliefs on others. I live in a Catholic family, my father does not support abortion, however he at least recognizes that it is not his right to force his beliefs on others. Our country was created free and no one has the right to push their personal beliefs on others. Obama 08’
Watching these have definitely improved my opinion about Biden. In particular two of these videos have jumped out- his position on abortion and his views of Palin.
Biden, saying that he feels that no one, be it a politician or an average person, should impose their religious views upon others had definitely added a huge advantage to the democrats in this election. He was absolutely right. I don’t think that one’s religious opinions and beliefs should determine their success as a politician. The topic of abortion is not black and white, thus having a variety of agreements and disagreements that one could share with another. Biden believes that life starts at the moment of conception; however that does not mean that he would run against abortion itself. Its true, abortions should not be supported with public money, however the public cannot decide whether one could have an abortion or not. It is simply a very personal matter that government should absolutely stay out of.
Another point I found interesting is Biden’s commentary on Palin. He definitely demonstrated the pros of a good politician. I did not hear a word denouncing Palin what so ever. I think the vise presidential nominees are taking too much of the spot light, for, when elected, the presidential nominees would make the most difference. Something else that I find to be extremely humorous are the Hillary Clinton supporters who have now changed their political views and became Palin supporters. Elections should not be like that. Opinions should be based on a politician’s views not their sex, race, or party. I cannot believe that people could simply change their views and move from party to party like that. Some of course do not know who to support and take the position their party is committed to.
