I agree with the general premise of this video. I find it interesting that if a candidate makes his opponent the issue, his chances and favorability improve. This might help McCain quite a bit. I also find it interesting that Obama voted present over, if I recall correctly from the video, one hundred times. I think it is time that Obama showed the American people what exactly he stands for other than change because change is not always good. I would hate to elect a President based solely on the principle of change. I do not want Obama to win the election because he is not a Republican. I want to know “where is the beef.” As one of the probably fewer members of our class that are eligible to vote, I am still undecided. I think now is probably a good time to force Obama to take stances on issues. I do not want Obama in the white house because Bush is unpopular and a Republican. I do not want this competition to be based on charisma. I find it interesting that protesters asked what Obama had done for the black community. Obama needs to start taking positions and give his campaign some substance before voters get scared of him.
I think that it is a good idea to point out that Obama has a good chance of not getting elected just because of his color. As the short haired lady pointed out, surveyed Americans showed that they would consider his color before voting, and it was even in the double digits… That’s how racist our country is still. And I also think it is a good idea to attack your opponent in politics. No politics was ever won just talking about themselves. In order to win in anything, you must point out your strengths, and make obvious your opponent’s weaknesses. And now I kind of have mixed feelings about McCain, because he is secondarily promoting racism because he is giving Obama the feelings that “They’re going to make you scared of me because I look different…” I think that nuclear energy is a good idea (I already posted on it if you want to read more about my opinion…) and influencing Obama to want to compromise and do offshore oil-drilling like McCain is a sign of leadership in this battle, because Obama is following McCain in the economic hemisphere. And it is a good question to bring up – if the next president should be a democrat (44% – to – 28% should be democrat – to – republican) but Obama is @ only a 47% popular vote compared to McCain’s 41%, what is causing Obama to have only a 6% lead?
Rebecca I agree with you. He needs to tell us what and how he is going to change our nation. We don’t need that much change as far as I’m concerned… Just a little direction for our economy to move nad maybe a little encouragement to our forces in the middle-east. But as everyone knows (or at least should know by now) the economy is definitely the main subject in this year’s elections. So if you’re going to change the country, at least let us know what it is and how you’re going to do it. And what exactly is the “Obama voted present 100 times” supposed to be, i don’t understand that at all. Maybe i missed the context a bit.
I think its rather horible that race could be such a factor in the election. in a statistic mentioned, “double digit percentages” say that people would consider race before voting. the issue of race alone can decide some peoples’ vote? Obama seems to be stuck in between the radical whites, who just hate him because of his color, and the radical blacks, who think that he doesnt deserve to be one of them or something… the question of race is just more proof that the politicians are trying to bring in other factors into the election that really should have never been there in the first place. The presidential race should always be about whats best for the country, otherwise, presidents just end up trying to please the public… like how obama changed his opinion on off shore drilling just because McCain started to make progress with the public with that subject. in the end, it seems to come down to “a battle of charisma” and flaws. they prey on each other’s flaws and weaknesses like vultures or something. These are the kinds of things that draw people away from politics… the pointless details are of the most importance, and can decide a campaign.
